Bremer County was awarded a grant in the amount of $939,436, for the continued development of the Rolling Prairie
Trail. Specifically, the grant will provide 70% of the cost towards the trail construction of the trail from highway 63
into Readlyn. There was a Bremer County Board of Supervisors meeting at which the three Supervisors – Gaylord Hinderaker,
Steve Reuter, and Ken Kammeyer – decided to fund an addition $25,000 towards the construction of the Trail extension.
Bremer County has already pledged $25,000 in addition to purchasing the land and pledging to do most of the engineering
work. The Vision Iowa negotiation committee handling Bremer County’s CAT Grant application expressed the need to get
the recipient communities to invest in their projects as much as possible. Therefore, Vision Iowa has agreed to award
a CAT Grant of $250,000. This will leave another $25,000 to raise privately to reach the project total of $1.4 million.
With “Grant money” totaling about $1.2 million the Vision Iowa negotiating committee suggested that a $50,000 Bremer
County investment plus land and engineering (valued at about $140,000) combined with the private donations of $125,000
was a most equitable arrangement.
With your help the work has began with the engineering already this fall.
By the
spring of 2008 the work should begin for the long awaited GRUMP TRAIL
